- Dates for your Diary
Dear Parents and Carers,
Wow, what a term it has been! I wanted to take a moment to express how incredibly proud we are of the children. They have worked so hard this term and it has been an absolute joy to see their progress. I have had the pleasure of popping into classrooms and witnessing their dedication and enthusiasm first hand.
In addition to their hard work in the classroom, our children have also had the opportunity to enjoy some fantastic outings. Trips to Westonbirt Arboretum and the Cheltenham Literature Festival were a big hit and more recently, we have celebrated Harvest - I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
Looking ahead, as we gear up towards Christmas, there will be a flurry of activities and events taking place. From festive performances to special celebrations, there will be plenty to keep us all busy. So please, keep an eye on our diary dates.
But before we dive into the next term, let's all take a moment to recharge our batteries during the half term break. I would like to remind you that we have an INSET day on Monday 6th November, so the children will return to school on Tuesday 7th November.
Finally, I want to say a big thank you to our incredible staff for their unwavering dedication and hard work, and of course, thank you to all the parents and carers for your ongoing support and partnership.
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half term break.
Best wishes
Lucy Collins

Cheltenham Literature Festival
Years 2 and 6 went to visited the Cheltenham Literature festival a couple of weeks ago and had a brilliant time! Year 2 were amazed by the wonderful Rob Bidulph who entertained us with his fantastic illustrations and we even got to draw along with Rob to create our very own panda! Years 5 and 6 learnt about authors Lesley Parr and Phil Earle’s paths to become published authors. Both days were absolutely brilliant and the children were a credit to the school as always.
The KS1 children walked to the St Paul and St Stephen church to celebrate Harvest. The children sang a selection of songs and the Year 2 children read an extract from Peter Rabbit. The children were amazing and it was lovely that so many families were able to come and watch.
A huge thank you to all of the volunteers and PCSO's who helped us to walk safely to the church.
EYFS Trip to Westonbirt Arboretum
Class 1 and 2 had a great time exploring Westonbirt on our school trip. We went on a hunt for the Gruffalo, using the maps to show us the way. We found him and his friends, we also had fun playing in the woodland play area and doing wax rubbings of the trees.
Some our year 4 children visited Denmark Road High School for a Science festival. Here we were able to use some of the secondary science equipment in lessons and see all of the amazing projects that other schools had on display. Our project looked at forces as we tested a loop de loop rollercoaster!
Welcome to our gardening news!
Autumn was truly kind to us so far and we enjoyed planting some strawberry shoots in our new planter.
We also got busy harvesting all the tomatoes, as the weather gets colder. The children were very curious to find out that these green tomatoes can be pickled and eaten in the winter.
There is always plenty of weeding to do in the garden and with so many busy and keen little hands we are doing a great job at keeping on top of the weeds quite well.
The children enjoyed planting tulip, iris and allium bulbs. We can’t wait to brighten up our school with some colourful spring flowers in the new season.

As we were clearing out the veggie patch, we were very pleasantly surprised to find some more baby courgettes growing.
We thank Patrick and his family for sending us these amazing photos of Patrick enjoying homegrown pumpkin harvesting in his Grandad’s Garden in Devon. Patrick also brought some into school to show them at the gardening club.
This just shows what a glorious autumn we have had all over the country this year.

Friends of Linden
It has been a busy term, with the Christmas card project, two Tuck Shops and a Dress Down Day. We haven't forgotten about the after school gathering either and will get a date in place as soon as we can after half term.
Christmas Cards
Thank you to everyone that placed orders for the cards or other merchandise. This project is always a joy to run, seeing all the beautiful designs. Thank you to all the staff too for helping to create the art and facilitate the class management. We expect the finished items to be with us towards the end of November.
Tuck Shop
We are delighted to have been able to open the Tuck Shop twice this term and this is something we hope to make a regular event towards the end of each month. Keep a look out for more information next term.
Dress Down Day
The dress down day was really popular and we tried something new with a donated item instead of a coin. It was a huge success; thank you to everyone that brought in something in for this. The plan is for the items to be put together to create a number of hampers that will become prizes in a Winter Raffle.
Notices
We communicate our events and projects through the official channels of the school email and schoolzine, so make sure that you check these regularly. Where we can, we also arrange for posters to be placed on classroom doors, so check for these if you are in the playground. We also have a noticeboard in the KS2 playground, it has a red background and is to the right of the main KS2 entrance doors. There is an unofficial Facebook page, Linden Parents, that is run by parents and is not affiliated with the school. We use it for advertising events and it is a useful source of information in an informal way.
We are always looking for new helpers and would love to hear from you if you want to find out more. All help is gratefully received it is a lovely to be involved. Please email us at [email protected] to get in touch and find out more.
Next term, we'll update on some exciting projects that we have been able to help fund using money raised from our events.
Have a lovely half term break.
