Dear Parents and Carers,
As always, these last few weeks of the summer term are packed with lots going on and the lovely sunny weather has been enjoyed by all – let’s hope it returns next week!
One of my favourite community events of the year is the Summer Fair. Firstly, thank you to Mrs Nelmes and the ‘Friends of Linden’. It takes a huge combined effort and a lot of time to organise and it was a massive success. Secondly, thank you to our staff who helped with the class makes and also to man a stall and tidy up. Finally, thank you everyone who was able to come along to support us last week. It was so lovely to see so many of you (and other family members) we hoped you enjoyed it as much as we did.
Over the last few weeks, we have had the pleasure of welcoming in our new Reception children as their transition events have now begun. It has been lovely to see them in school and exploring their new classrooms. Next week, the rest of the school will have their ‘move up’ afternoon and many of our current Year 6’s will be visiting their new secondary schools. You will see a new name on the attached teaching staff sheet – we will be welcoming Miss Wignall to our Linden family and she will be joining us on Thursday to meet the children in her class.
Coming up this term we still have the Year 6 production, Year 2 and Year 6 trip to the Air Tattoo, Arts week and much more. Please check out the ’Dates’ page of this newsletter to make sure you know what’s happening.

Year 3 Trip to Burton on the Water
On Wednesday this week, Year 3 visited Bourton on the Water to do some geography fieldwork. We carried out traffic and public surveys, used mapwork skills on a walk and had time to have a play in the park! We also sketched the river whilst enjoying an ice lolly!
Class 1 and 2 had great fun representing our school at the GSSN Summer Multiskills Festival. They all took part in a variety of sporting events with the firm favourite being 'What's the time Mr Bear?'
Well done boys and girls you made us all proud!
Gloucester Rugby Club Assembly
Prior to the visit, classes discussed questions they’d like to ask and shared these with the School Council who then asked the questions in the assembly. It was fascinating to hear about the player’s training sessions, the food they eat, the training they have to do as well as finding out some of their personal achievements in their own careers. Charlie Chapman shared his story of starting with Matson and Spartans Rugby Clubs as a child before joining the Gloucester Rugby DPP programme at the age of 13. It was wonderful to hear this story and has given many of our pupils that have a love of playing rugby a sense that anything is possible if they put their mind to it! Who knows, we may have a future Gloucester Rugby player here at Linden…
In our last gardening club session for this term we enjoyed painting some pebbles. The children were also very excited to take their tall sunflowers home. We shared our ideas and feelings in our special diary.
Our garden looks amazing and we are looking forward to sharing our first produce of lettuce and green onions with the school community at the end of school day today. We think the courgettes and carrots will be next, followed by tomatoes. We also managed to collect some chive seeds from our adult plants ready to be planted next year.
Thank you to everyone who supported the gardening club this year and we are looking forward to start another adventure in September.
