- Dates for your Diary
Dear Parents and Carers,
A busy week marks the end of a short, yet busy term. I would like to thank those of you that attended our Parent’s Consultation evenings this week – it was lovely to see you all and to share the progress your children have been making.
Today, school has been buzzing with the end of term excitement and we have finished with a fantastic celebration assembly where the children who have attended the Samba Drumming club with Mr Brown have performed. It has been a musical couple of weeks – Year 3 singing at Gloucester Cathedral, brass and woodwind concerts, a high-energy Rocksteady and Choir concert and a beautiful string quartet performance. Thank you for your support and attendance at these performances, we hope you enjoyed them as much as we did.
A few new dates for your diary that I would like to draw your attention to…
Monday 24th April marks the one-year anniversary of the death of Mrs Phelps, one of our Learning Partners. We would like to mark the day and celebrate her life and many years of service to our Linden family. We would like to invite all children and staff to wear yellow (Mrs Phelps’ favourite colour) and bring in a donation for MacMillan who supported Mrs Phelps and her family.
Friday 5th May (afternoon) we would like to invite families to join us for a picnic on the field to celebrate the coronation of King Charles. Like our Jubilee picnic last year, we will have some performances from the children before allowing them to join you. Further information will follow after Easter.
Following my letter earlier this week, please can I remind you that Parent Governor applications are due back after the holidays, with nomination packs being available from the school office. This really is a great way to get involved in our school community and make a difference to the outcomes and education of our children.
Finally, I hope you all have fantastic and fun-filled Easter break, lets hope the rain stays away and we can enjoy some spring sunshine. We look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday 17th April.
Lucy Collins

Reception and Year 1 had a talk from the local PCSO’s Mike and Chris about road safety as it is important that we all know how to stay safe on the busy roads in the area.
The Reception children also got to sit in the police car and make finger prints.
Thank you to Mike and Chris for their support and sharing this important information with us.
On Wednesday last week, Year 3 walked up to the Cathedral for their Junior Voices concert. The year 3s did incredibly well, not only walking all the way to the Cathedral, but practicing and putting on a grand performance late into the evening.
They represented Linden fantastically. We as a staff are massively proud of all the hard work and the resulting phenomenal performance put on by our year 3s. Go Team 3!
This term Year 1 have been learning how to make 3D paper sculptures in art. Here is some of the lovely art work that the children have made!
We have been delighted to have several exciting music events in school over the last 2 weeks.
Firstly, year 5 children performed to children and parents and carers on the brass instruments they have been learning this term. This was a repeat of their performance at Cheltenham Town Hall earlier this month and it was great to have the chance to share the outcome of their hard work with our Linden audience.
Secondly, our small group clarinet and flute pupils played in an assembly last Friday morning. Again, it was fantastic to have the chance to invite parents and carers in to share their success. It is always amazing to see the progress they have made in such a small amount of time and we look forward to sharing again towards the end of the year.
Thursday 30th March was a double music day as we had a concert to start the day and a concert to finish. In the morning, our superb Rocksteady pupils and our ever-growing school choir performed to a packed hall. They were all fantastic, and we would like to say a big thank you to Trinity from Rocksteady for her hard work this term and her performance energy!
In the afternoon, our children had a rest from performing and instead we were visited by the wonderful Carducci String Quartet (https://carducciquartet.com/). Our thanks to our partners at Gloucestershire Music (https://www.gloucestershiremusic.co.uk/) for offering us this opportunity.
Finally, just this afternoon, our samba drum band gave their very first performance to begin our last celebration of the term. They did themselves proud and we look forward to more performances next term and beyond.
Year 1 - Multiskills Tournament
This week the Year 1 children went to Oxstalls Tennis Centre to take part in the multi-skills festival with lots of other local primary schools. The children had the opportunity to take part in lots of fun physical activities during their visit. A huge thank you to all of the helpers who joined us on the trip.

At Linden Primary School we expect all children to attend school on time, every day. They should only miss school if they are too ill to attend. As we move into the spring and summer months, we wave goodbye to all of the winter ailments and look forward positively to improved attendance for all that may have been unfortunately affected by illness.
Mild symptoms, such as a runny nose or stomach discomfort, should not prevent your child from attending school. Please don’t hesitate to contact us If you are unsure if your child should attend or not.
Attendance Tip:
What can YOU do to help make your child successful all day, every day?
- Help your child get organised the night before
- Put out their water bottle, bag and school uniform.
- Set an alarm to help all the family wake up early. This will allow time for your child to get dressed, have breakfast, bush their teeth and leave home on time to be at school every day on time.

Silver Smarties Challenge
We are delighted to be running the Silver Smarties Challenge over the Easter holiday.
Each child has been given a tube of smarties as a little gift from us. We hope they enjoy the treat. In return, we ask that you keep hold of the empty tube and help your child to fill it with silver coins. Maybe they could ask family and friends or do some small jobs for you in return.
Once full or you have finished, please seal your tube, label it with your child’s Class Number and return it to class by Friday 21st April.
We will arrange a treat for the class that raises the most money.
Come and Meet Us
We would like to invite you to meet us on Tuesday 18th April from 3.10pm at school. We are really keen to welcome more parenrs and carers into our Friends family, and this is an opportunity to find out a bit more about how you can become involved and how you might be able to help. Refreshments will be available.
Sponsored Read
We are planning to run a sponsored read event and book fair in school. More details will be coming out soon.

Message from the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme
Message from the HAF Team:
We would like to give every eligible family the opportunity to experience the fantastic support available from the Holiday Activities and Food programme, so making sure they're HAF ready when booking opens on 16 March is really important to us.
Previously, most activity bookings have been taken up in the first few days of bookings going live and we don't want any families to miss out.
We'd really appreciate you sharing details of the HAF programme with parents as soon as possible. It is available for children who receive benefits related free school meals and are in reception to year 11.
kind regards,
The HAF team
