Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy Friday and happy St. Patrick’s Day! It has been a strange week and I’d like to thank you all for your support. It has been lovely to end it on a high; all dressed in red for Comic Relief… the staff even shared some of their ‘best’ jokes in assembly this afternoon.
With the nicer weather, it is lovely to see more children walking, riding and scooting to school. Please can I ask that children are reminded to hop off their bikes, scooters, roller skates before coming through the gates – wheels and busy playgrounds can be a dangerous combination.
Next week looks set to be a fantastically musical one, with lots going on. Our Year 3 classes have been working hard to learn a selection of new songs and on Wednesday afternoon, they are heading to Gloucester Cathedral to take part in ‘Gloucester Junior Voices concert’. On Thursday afternoon (2:20pm), we have our Year 5 whole-class brass ensemble showcase for parents, followed on Friday morning (9:30am) by a woodwind concert for our individual flute and clarinet players.
I wish you all a lovely weekend
Lucy Collins

Linden was very red today as we supported Red Nose Day 2023. A huge thank you to everyone who donated to this really worthwhile cause. We have raised over £230.00!
Year 5 - Cheltenham Town Hall Concert
This term, Year 5 have been learning to play brass instruments with their teacher from Gloucestershire Music. As you can imagine it's been quite a noisy experience for all, but on Monday 13th March they were given the amazing opportunity to perform on stage at Cheltenham Town Hall alongside other schools from across Gloucestershire. Not only did they do a fantastic job playing songs like 'We Will Rock You' and 'I Feel Good', their behaviour was impeccable and they did a superb job of representing our school. A massive well done to Year 5, and we look forward to sharing their work in school in their assembly performance on Thursday 23rd March.
Year 2 - The Wilson Experience
On 8th March, The Wilson Museum came to do a workshop with us all about the polar explorer Edward Wilson who was born and lived locally in Cheltenham. We learnt all about the toys he had growing up in Victorian Britain as well as the work he did that led him to become an explorer. We then had a close look at some of the artefacts and paintings produced on Wilson's polar explorations. After this, we had the best time trying to be an explorer ourselves, mapping out and naming parts of Antarctica, following guide ropes, studying, and making observational drawings of wildlife.
To celebrate British Science Week, we had two Oxford lecturers to visit KS2 and talk to us about our Green Planet. Here we were able to see acids and alkalis, nitrogen reactions and the effects of fuels on our atmosphere.
KS1 watched a live lesson from the NFU on 'how tractors are connected to space!'
Happy Science week!
World Book Day 2023
Thank you to all of the parents who joined the KS1 and EYFS children to read stories it was lovely to see so many of you. The children really enjoyed sharing books with you and getting to show you their learning environments. Throughout the day the children were able to hear stories from different teachers and to share books with other classes. It was amazing to hear the children talking with so much enthusiasm for books and sharing their passion for reading.
Exciting news from Young Voices 2023!!

Message from the Friends of Linden
Gloucester Feed The Hungry
We are delighted to be supporting this worthy cause again this year and collecting Easter Eggs for them. The collection box for egg donations wil be available from Monday 20th March to Friday 24th March. This has always been generously supported by our school community in the past, and it would be wonderful if we could show that support again this year.
Sponsored Read and Book Fair
We are excited to be running this event again over the Easter holidays. All money raised will enable books to be purchased for the school. At the end of the event there will be a book fair in school, on Friday 21st April. More information will be released soon.
We are working on some other events so look out for details of these. As always, we would welcome new helpers. Please do get in touch at [email protected] if you would like to get involved or find out more.

Message from the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme
Message from the HAF Team:
We would like to give every eligible family the opportunity to experience the fantastic support available from the Holiday Activities and Food programme, so making sure they're HAF ready when booking opens on 16 March is really important to us.
Previously, most activity bookings have been taken up in the first few days of bookings going live and we don't want any families to miss out.
We'd really appreciate you sharing details of the HAF programme with parents as soon as possible. It is available for children who receive benefits related free school meals and are in reception to year 11.
kind regards,
The HAF team
