Dear Parents, Carers and Children,
Welcome to the final newsletter of this school year. This final term has certainly been a busy one, with a rather warm ending! From our Jubilee picnic, to sports days and summer fetes, as well as preparing all of our children for their transition to the next class and year group.
It has been an absolute pleasure to watch the Year 6 children enjoy so many of the rites of passage that being a ‘Linden Leaver’ entails – something that we have sorely missed over the last few years. The production of ‘Matilda’ was incredible and such a magical way to end their journey at Linden. We wish them all the very best of luck for September.
As we head into a well-deserved break for the summer, I would like to say a few ‘thank-yous’. Firstly, to the children…you have had a brilliant year and have impressed us all with your resilience and hard work. Secondly, I would like to thank all of the staff. We have faced our challenges, yet their determination and dedication has been resolute. I would also like to take the opportunity to say goodbye and good luck to those staff leaving Linden this week, you will be missed. Finally, I would like to thank all of the parents and carers for your invaluable support – together, we have been able to give the children the most normal ‘new normal’ year after two extremely difficult years.
I really hope that you all have a wonderful break over the summer and I look forward to seeing all of the children return for the start of term on Tuesday 6th September 2022.
Best wishes,
Lucy Collins

Reception
Reception had a fantastic time on our trip to Bristol zoo this week. We saw lots of animals including monkeys, lions, butterflies, tortoises, red pandas, bats, lizards, turtles, a crocodile, birds, fish, penguins, seals and even some meerkats. The children enjoyed spotting animals they have learned about this term as well as finding out about new animals along with their friends.
Year 4
Year 1
Year 1 met Susan from Gloucestershire Bundles. She talked to the children about how their donations would help families in Gloucester. She was very grateful for the amount we had collected and on behalf of Bundles would like to thank you all for your kindness and generosity. We are so proud of the Year 1 children for taking part in this experience and being able to share their belongings with people who are less fortunate than them.
Year 3
Year 3 want to say a massive thank you to Jennie from Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust who taught forest school every other Tuesday this year. This year we have grown potatoes, tomatoes, courgettes, radishes and more! On Tuesday this week we peeled, sliced and cooked our potatoes to create wedges!
Year 2 and Year 6
On Friday, the children in Year 2 and Year 6 had a special end of Key Stage celebration, attending the Royal International Air Tattoo in Fairford. The school had obtained the tickets through STEMworks and were really excited to be offering such an exciting opportunity as part of our STEM curriculum.
Highlights of the day were the incredible displays by the Red Arrows and the speed of the jets. The children were simply in awe of the constant displays and noises from the skies. The children also had the opportunity to visit the STEM activity tent and to get up close to a range of aircraft on display on the ground.
This was such an enjoyable and memorable experience had by all!
Year 2
Last week, Year 2 had a morning in Forest School. We made dens, spotted mini beasts and Mr Nelson even made a fire for us! We especially enjoyed eating smores and some toasted brioche at snack time.
At school, we love to take photographs or video clips of your children having learning experiences at school. We love to share these with you even more!
We use these photos and clips only with your permission on school approved platforms such as our newsletter, prospectus, internal displays in the school, Teams, Twitter and our own closed Facebook group (users can't view the group's content until they become a member which school have to authorise). We really need your consent to take and share photos and video clips of your child to use in these school approved platforms. If you’re not happy for us to do this, that’s no problem – we will accommodate your preferences.

Message from Friends of Linden
It has been a very busy and exciting term for Friends of Linden, organising lots of events and activities. Thank you to everyone for supporting these and helping to make them successful whilst raising funds for the school. It wouldn’t be possible without our amazing volunteers, so a huge thank you to everyone who has helped this term. Lastly, thank you to all the staff that have supported us in many ways to enable us to bring the events and projects to you.
Summer Fair
It was wonderful to be able to hold the Summer Fair again this year after a three year break and it was fantastic to see so many of you there having lots of fun. From the bouncy castles to soak the teacher, welly wanger to beat the goalie, crown trail to class makes, the raffle, tuck shop, external craft stalls, an ice cream van and much much more, there was something for everyone. The final total for the amount raised, including from selling left over stock at the Year 6 shows and Tuck Shop, is a staggering £1600.
We were very fortunate to be able to secure some sponsors for some of our activities, which enables us to raise more money.
- TG Lettings for sponsoring a bouncy castle
- King of the Castles for donating one of the bouncy castles
- Haden Browne Plastics for donating the plastic tiles for the class makes
- Wheatley’s Whippy for donating a proportion of their takings
We also have a fantastic number of companies that generously donated towards our raffle, which enabled us to give away over 40 prizes:
Plantation | Waterways Museum |
Ernest Cocks & Sons Funeral Directors | The Club at Tuffley Park |
The Avenue | Asda |
Shades Hairdresser | Hobbycraft |
Body Shop At Home | Seymour Fryer |
Cineworld | Seymour Cafe |
Tesco | Coop |
Gloucester Museums | Nero |
Dixie Dot | Planet All Stars |
Body Shop | Aldi |
FM World | Morrisons |
Sherborne Cinema | The Entertainer |
Eden Hair | Rococo Gardens |
Wholly Gelato | Silesian Food |
Class Makes
It was lovely to see all the fantastic artwork created by the children as we brought Class Makes back to the fair. Thank you to all the staff for their efforts to make this happen.
Year 6 Shows and Tuck Shop
The left over stock from the fair enabled us to sell some treats at the Year 6 shows and we held a successful Tuck Shop last Friday. Look out for more Tuck Shop events next term.
Jubilee Project
The finished items from this project were sent home this term and the amount raised through commission will be communicated as soon as we have the final details.
Donations
It is a pleasure to update on some of the donations that we have been able to make to the school this term.
Classroom Books were purchased using the £806.36 raised through the Coin Bottle Challenge and Dress Down Day held in the Autumn Term.
We have also funded the Bouncy Castle for the Year 6 leavers day again this year and were delighted to be able to supply ice lollies for everyone in school to enjoy this week during the hot spell. Additionally, we donated the left over stock from the fair to the classes to enjoy as part of their last week of term activities.
Now that we are almost back to our normal level of fundraising again, we will be looking at further opportunities for funding with the school after the summer holidays.
We are always looking for volunteers to join our team. Any help is always appreciated, however big or small. If you would like to find out more, please contact [email protected]
Have a great summer everyone, and we look forward to bringing you more events and opportunities next year.
