Wow, what a year! In the blink of an eye it has gone and we are at the summer holidays.
I am sure that at some point we will all look back on this and ask ’did that really happen?’. Of course we will remember the anxiety, the worry and the stress but, hopefully our overpowering memories will be of a time spent as a family having adventures and just being together and of our increased appreciation of those closest to us. I look forward now to September - a time when, fingers crossed, Linden Primary School can fully open its doors again and welcome everyone back.
This newsletter will outline some of key dates for the next academic year and is also a celebration of our fantastic Year 6 leavers. It was an absolute delight to share the last 3 days of the term with this group of children. We wish them the very best of luck as they move onto their Secondary Schools after the summer holiday. We will miss them all!
Attached to this newsletter you will find a letter for your children. Please can I ask that you take the time to share this with them we are so proud of each and every one of them.
I wish you all a safe and enjoyable summer and we will see you when term begins on Wednesday 2nd September.
Best wishes
Lucy Collins
Headteacher
Dear Children,
I wanted to say how proud I am of all of you – Linden you really are the best!
Normally, at the end of the year, we would celebrate together, we would sing together and we would say goodbye together. This year it is all very different, but I wanted to let you know that we are thinking about you. What a crazy few months it has been! Whether you have come into school as part of the key worker or year group bubbles or if you have remained at home with your family, you are all now part of history. Each and every one of you have played your part during this pandemic and it will be something that you will look back on for the rest of your life.
To those of you who have stayed at home – thank you for trying your hardest with the home learning activities we’ve set. I hope that you have enjoyed at least some of it. Your teachers have been keeping me informed of what they have been asking you to do and I know that they loved catching up with many of you during their phone calls home. We cannot wait to see you all in September. Please don’t worry about coming back to school. Yes, it will be different, but we are all here to help and support you.
To those of you who have been in school during this time – you have been amazing! You have coped so well with the changes that we have had to make and you have taken it all in your stride. We have been able to share some fantastic moments with you all and you have all worked very hard. It has been so lovely to see how well you have all gotten along and I know that the teachers and learning partners have loved getting to know different groups of children. Thank you.
To our fabulous Year 6 leavers. Seeing so many of you return on Wednesday was a special moment. We know that you have missed out on so much and we all want you know how incredible we think you are. As I said to you this morning, your future lies ahead of you – grab it with both hands, make the most of every opportunity and remember that you can do anything you put your minds to! We will miss you all and wish you the very best of luck for this next chapter of your life.
I want you to go and have a great summer holiday; have fun, behave and most importantly stay safe! We will see you very soon.
Lots of love to all of you
Mrs Collins (and all of the staff at Linden)
Message from the Friends of Linden
When the schools closed in March, we were busy organising our Easter event and already planning the Summer Fair. Now as we reflect, four months later, with so many things cancelled, we remember what we were able to do in the first half of this year.
We held a Christmas cake sale, served refreshments at the KS2 carol concerts and ran a virtual book fair. We strengthened our connection with Gloucester Feed The Hungry, supporting their Christmas and Easter collections. We started up a termly second hand uniform shop, and ran a very popular Tuck Shop.
While away from school, we were able to organise a video message for the teachers and staff. More recently we have organised the Year 6 Leavers Hoodies and arranged for each child in Year 6 to have a little keepsake gift to mark both the milestone of finishing Primary School and their time in lockdown.
We wish everyone a happy and safe Summer Holidays. See you all in September.

- We will share the Year 6 Leavers films with you as soon as we have a secure way to do so, please bear with us
- Any children that have been in school at all this last week of term, that show any symptoms of Covid-19 over the next 14 days please can you email [email protected] to advise us as soon as possible.
- Please can you have a good look through for any school library or book corner books you may have at home - there is a box in the office reception for you to return them in.
- A reminder for our current Year 2 Parents that as your child moves into Year 3, our school dinners are £2.30 and need to be paid for unless you are in receipt of low income based free school meals. If you feel you may qualify please take a look at the following website: https://www.gov.uk/apply-free-school-meals/gloucestershire
The current Year 5s missed their Bikeability training as this usually takes place in June. We have rescheduled this for our return in September. If your child wishes to take part they will need to be able to ride a bike and have access to a bicycle that is in a roadworthy condition for the week commencing 21st September. The cost of this Bikeability training will be £8 which is heavily subsidised. A letter will come out with more details at the start of September.
We will give more information about events when we have it
