Welcome back,

I hope you had a restful half term.

I want to take this opportunity to say well done to all of the children for settling back
into school so well, especially Classes 1 and 2.

As always, this term promises to be a busy one as we head towards Christmas. Please see the 'Dates for your Diary' for a full list of this term's events. After School clubs will recommence over the coming weeks and any additional dates will be sent to you via the SchoolZine App.

Finally, I would like to share some good news. Mr Alex Brown and his wife welcomed their second child, Rory, last term. We would like to extend our congratulations on his safe arrival.

WESTONBIRT TRIP

The children had a wonderful day at Westonbirt Arboretum they went on an autumn walk to find the Gruffalo and his friends. They then explored the woods climbing trees, over tractor tyres and different objects. They undertook tree rubbings using paper and wax crayons an were able to talk about the marks from the tree bark. The children showed great satisfaction when they achieved what they had set out to do.

SPORTING EVENTS

The Linden girls' football team got their season off to a great start
with a 7-2 win over St Peter's Primary School. Well done girls!

Linden Primary School's Netball Match versus Highnam School we won 7 – 0 - well done team!! Sorry there were no photographs of this amazing game!

YEAR 5 EVACUEE DAY

What a great day the Year 5s had looking at rationing, gas masks, air raid shelters and learning some World War 2 dances. The children even enjoyed some Spam, corned beef and mashed potatoes.

YEAR 2 SUPERHEROES!

As part of their ‘We Could Be Heroes’ theme, the Year 2 children have been visited by local 'heroes' who are people who help us. The children were visited by a nurse and the police.

The children have since then become heroes of the community by working with Gloucester City Council to help tidy up our local area during a walk to the Lannet.

HARVEST FESTIVAL

The Year 1 and Year 2 children walked to St Paul's and St Stephen's church for the Harvest Festival Service. We are overwhelmed by your support with donations to the Gloucester Food Bank. Thank you to all who helped or donated.

NATURE IN ART

Three Year 6 children went to a Nature in Art day at Wallsworth Hall in Sandhurst. They took part in a range of different autumn-themed art activities such as batiquing and clay moulding led by specialist teachers. The children looked around the manor house and gardens to discover metal sculptures made by local artist, Alan Jack of Longlevens.

* Now the days are getting colder, please ensure your child has a coat with them - even if you drop them off by car.

* Breakfast, WrapAround Care and School dinners need to be paid for in advance. WrapAround care needs to be booked and paid for in advance. Booking can be done by emailing [email protected].

* If you need to pick your child up early, please ensure the School Office is aware in advance of the time and the reason for early collection.

We have had a very busy half term, with Christmas card projects, a book fair, our first second hand uniform sale and a coffee afternoon.

Coffee/Tea and Cake Afternoon – A fantastic £86 was raised for Macmillan between the coffee afternoon and left over cake sale.

Christmas Cards – Huge thank you to all the teachers and staff who helped with this.
So many beautiful creations again this year. The online shop has now closed, delivery will be early December.

Books for Bugs Online Book Fair - This started on Monday 21st October and will run until Wednesday 30th October 2019. All books are £2.50, with some great bargains to be found. Enter your child’s name and class, plus Linden Primary and the postcode GL1 5HU for free delivery to the school. For every 5 books ordered the school will receive a free book.

Uniform Shop – the next date for this is Friday 13th December 2019. We are also now
collecting good quality second hand uniform ready for the next sale. Please bring in washed items into the office, in a bag marked ‘Friends of Linden – Uniform Shop’.
