- Dates for your Diary
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we come to the end of a busy and long first term, I want to say a huge thank you for all your support and help. The children and staff have worked hard and are definitely ready for a well-deserved break!
In addition to their hard work in the classroom, our children have also had the opportunity to enjoy some fantastic outings. Trips to Westonbirt Arboretum and the Cheltenham Literature Festival were a big hit and today, it has been lovely to see the children coming together as whole school to explore and celebrate Diwali. Looking ahead, as we gear up towards Christmas, there will be a flurry of activities and events taking place. From Children In Need Day and anti-bullying week to festive performance and celebrations, there will be plenty to keep us all busy. So please, keep an eye on our diary dates.
Finally, I would like to share our congratulations to Miss Pelan (Learning Partner), who has recently got married. The children, and staff, are slowly getting used to calling her Mrs Brown!
I want to say a big thank you to our incredible staff for their unwavering dedication and hard work, and of course, thank you to all the parents and carers for your ongoing support and partnership. Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half term break - we have an INSET day on Monday 4th November, so look forward to welcoming you back to school on Tuesday 5th November.
Best wishes
Lucy Collins

Throughout October, we have been celebrating Black History Month. We launched this year’s theme ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ in assembly early in the month with Mrs Gardiner, the school’s History Lead, telling us the inspirational stories of a few black figures from history as well as the present day.
Each year group then focused on an inspirational black person who had a story that we felt was important to reclaim and tell others about. We have enjoyed our Black History Month coverage, especially when we shared the stories, we had learnt using our own words.
Year 6 Visit to Cheltenham Literature Festival
On the 8th October, Year 6 were delighted to visit the Cheltenham Literature Festival to meet Matt Goodfellow.
They enjoyed hearing about how he is inspired by his own life experiences, the lives of those around him, as well as his own imaginings to create new poems and stories. We were all totally engrossed as he read some of his favourite poems to us, along with extracts from his book 'The Final Year'. We can't to read more later on in the year!
Year 2 Cheltenham Literature Festival
On Wednesday 9th October, Year 2 enjoyed a wonderful visit to Cheltenham Literature Festival to see poet, storyteller and former children's laureate Joseph Coelho. Of course, the ride on a DOUBLE DECKER bus got the day off to a very exciting start! Joseph Coelho told us about how he became a poet, how much he earned for his first published poem (£50!) and he even taught us how to write poems ourselves. We worked on riddles, on limericks and (Mr Brown's favourite) one-word poems.
As always, our year 2 children behaved impeccably, and they were a credit to our school. Thank you to everyone who supported us on the trip!
Year 5 Visit to Cheltenham Literature Festival
Year 5 were fortunate to visit the Cheltenham Literature Festival.
They saw the author Onjali Q Rauf give a talk about her new book 'The Letter with the Golden Stamp' and her experiences as an author.
This was a particularly inspiring visit as the children will be completing a novel study on another of Onjali Rauf's books 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' later this year.
As part of our Design and Technology unit on Cooking and Nutrition, Year 5 have been designing their own version of the recipe for spaghetti bolognese.
We are really fortunate that we are able to make our recipes using the facilities at Ribston High School. Our second group of Year 5's visited this week and led by the teacher at Ribston, they did a fantastic job of chopping vegetables and cooking their bolognese sauce. They even washed up too! We look forward to taking more groups over the next few weeks.
The KS1 children went to St Paul's and St Stephen's Church to perform a Harvest celebration assembly. The children sang a selection of songs and also read some facts about Harvest. We were really proud of them as they performed so well.
A huge thank you to the parent helpers, Reverend Sonia and our local PCSO for their help.
EYFS had a wonderful trip visiting Westonbirt Arboretum. We enjoyed exploring, playing, climbing, collecting lots of leaves, discovering different trees and practising our map reading. We were all very excited to find the Gruffalo.
EYFS have had a fantastic week learning all about Diwali! We have; made our own Rangoli patterns, created our own Mendhi patterns, made our own Diva lamps out of clay, tasted different Indian foods (Poppadom's, Korma sauce, mango chutney and Naan bread- yummy!) , dressed up in traditional Indian clothing and danced to lots of different Indian music.
We have a large number of children who are on the Cool Milk register but aren’t collecting milk from the fridge. This is resulting in a large amount of out of date milk that we have to throw away.
Please could you double check with your child that they still want to remain on the Cool Milk register and if not contact Cool Milk directly.
